FAMILY STRENGTHENING AND DEVELOPMENT COUNSELLOR

Temporary Full-time (35 hours per week) until December 31, 2016.

The Family Strengthening and Development program engages families in short-term, goal focused interventions to assist families who are in immediate crisis and at risk of abusing or neglecting their children, to learn and apply new appropriate strategies to manage their family and practical needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Degree in human services or relevant combination of education and experience
 Current First Aid certificate
 Valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
 No relevant criminal history
The preferred candidate will have:
 knowledge of human services resources in the Surrey area
 solution focused experience/training
 lay counseling and teaching skills/training
 experience with or a working understanding of Strength and Needs Assessment tool
 knowledge/experience with child protection issues
 demonstrated communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
 use of a reliable vehicle (for outreach and transporting clients)
 the ability to do light lifting/bending
 the ability to speak/understand multiple languages (an asset)
 Crisis Line experience (an asset).

* An eligibility list will be maintained for up to 6 months
