爲什麽國際社會不承認中華民國政府?因爲共產黨

Here’s the problem.

Most people think that “Taiwan” is this:

The island of Taiwan plus a few other islands in the Formosa Strait.

But that’s not Taiwan at all. In fact, there is no country known as Taiwan. In the capital, Taipei, this is the “Republic of China”, which is the official name of the country.

Now, frankly most nations recognize that the Republic of China is the de facto government of the Island of Taiwan, as well as those other islands.

But one “country” that does not recognize this is…. the Republic of China. In the Republic of China, this is the Republic of China

To the Republic of China, the government of the People’s Republic of China is completely illegitimate, a fake, a fraud that doesn’t have and has never had any authority over China. The fact that something calling itself “The People’s Republic of China” has existed for 73 years is neither here nor there. In fact, the Republic of China has existed for 116 years and from 1906 to 1973 was seen by the majority of the world’s governments as the legitimate government of this territory. Heck, from 1945 to 1973 the Republic of China held China’s seat in the United Nations.

So, if a nation recognizes the Republic of China, it pretty much also has to recognize that the Republic of China is the sovereign government of:

  • All of the People’s Republic of China
  • Most of Mongolia
  • Pieces of India, Pakistan, the former Soviet Union, Burma, Bhutan and Japan

Now, I remind you that from 1949 to 1973, a period of time the People’s Republic of China clearly held de facto possession of all of mainland China, pretty much the entire western world pretended it didn’t.

“But couldn’t nations recognize an independent Taiwan?” you may ask. Well, they could, if Taiwan decided to assert independence, but they haven’t. And they won’t because, as others have pointed out, both the Republic and the People’s Republic want one united China. They both know that factions within the country over history led to its decay and invasion.

So, the Republic of China keeps hoping, against all reality, that the People’s Republic will at some point decay and they will be in charge again.

So it’s basically:

  1. Fall of the People’s Republic
  2. ?
  3. The Republic of China is on top again

So the real reason no-one will recognize them is that they clearly don’t control about 99% of the territory they claim and that’s unlikely to change. Ever.
