专栏 : 英文写作公开课 （五）----- 写主题句

上次课讲到了如何写主题陈述，今天就讲一讲如何写主题句 （ Topic Sentence ）。

我先提出什么是主题句的问题：

What is a topic sentence?

James答道：

A topic sentence, which normally comes at the beginning of a paragraph,

introduces the topic of the paragraph, or what it is about.

Erika 补充说：

A topic sentence also builds up the controlling idea in the paragraph.

Charles老师总结说：

A topic sentence is composed of two parts: topic + controlling ideas.

The rest of the paragraph supports or explains the topic sentence.

Henry提出疑问：

How do I generate a topic sentence?

Charles让同学们做相关的练习来帮助他们创建主题句。

Complete each topic sentence by adding a controlling idea expressed as a claim.

1.  In addition to money, a part-time job can provide valuable experience in time management.

2.  To obtain international education in Canada, a Chinese student will                                                     .

3.  Cooking requires                                                                           .

Charles老师完成了第一个主题句的主控论点。另外的两句就由读者朋友们自己尝试着完成。

最后，Charles老师总结说在：

To sum up, a topic sentence at or near the beginning of a paragraph essentially tells readers what the rest of the paragraph is about. All sentences after it have to give more information about that sentence, prove it by offering facts about it, or describe it in more detail. A topic sentence consists of a topic and one or more than one controlling ideas.
